Best cattle class

I just want to say that I am super impressed with Cathay Pacific's Boeing 747 plane I took last Sunday. It was by far, the most comfortable economy class I have ever taken - and trust me, I am super cheapskate so I have sat in a lot of them.

First of all, it's a big plane so it has a larger capacity. I don't have the exact specs but it runs up to over 60 + rows of seats; with 3 x 4 x 3 seats in a row.

Secondly, the seats are amazing! They are fixed-back seats which means they cannot be lowered, which means there is no way someone can suddenly swing back their seat and crush your legs or make you spill your drinks. That said, it doesnt mean you cannot recline. It is an upholstered shell seat which allows you to recline into the shell - meaning, you slide into the chair without affecting the passenger behind you. Cool beans!

Thirdly, the headrest is fully adjustable. I know SQ has adjustable ones as well but CX's is more heavily padded and you can adjust the top and sides, as opposed to just the sides on SQ.

Fourthly, the personal TV comes with an extensive library of on-demand movies and tv series/comedies. The best part is, they have the latest and full season (i.e. all episodes) of your favourite TV series. I caught the entire season 4 of Big Bang Theory Season on my flight back. Awesome!

Do I sound like a "suaku" yet? (Suaku = Someone who lives under a rock)

That said, there are corresponding not-so-good aspect of the flight such as sub-standard service and absolutely terrible food. And the profile of the passengers are, erm, very Chinese; read: noisy and need to use the toilet A LOT and they have to be reminded to flush. Generally, a lot of shouting going on and people asking for second serving or going to the back service stations to help themselves to drinks. Best if you can avoid sitting right at the back of the plane.

The price of a budget airline tix vs CX to HK is only a hundred more but that hundred really goes a long way into the comfort of your trip. So if you're heading down to HK or China, do consider giving CX a go. And if there are any CX representative reading this, do consider upgrading me next time so that I can rant and rave about your first class and withdraw my statement about your service and food. Xie xie!
