Talking tyres to bimbos

My siblings and I got into an active discussion about changing car tyres the other day.

It came up because they asked me what I want for my birthday and I asked them to “zng” my car. They changed the subject immediately and started talking about how expensive it is to maintain their own cars as it is. The Sis brought up the fact that she recently spent $6K on her recent car servicing at Honda because they made her change all 4 tyres. I also related my nightmare Borneo Motor servicing stories where they tried to make me change car parts I don't understand. We were going on and on (over email) until The Brother intervened to call us dumbass.

He said we should have just gone to any Ah Hock or Ah Huat Motor Service at any alley way to which we replied that we are scared and have no time. He then proceed to explain to us the difference between a $1K vs. $100 car servicing (apparently there is no difference) and $1K vs. $100 car tyre (apparently you only buy the $1K tyre if you are driving a F1 race car.)

I tried to be clever and argued that in the first place, we shouldn’t be changing all 4 tyres at the same time because we only wear out the front tyres so we should just move the back ones to the front and buy new tyres for the back.

The Brother replied that we must change our tyres every 2-3 yrs or so due to wear and tear, depending on how often you drive. If you service your car regularly at your dealer, they should already be doing tyre rotation (i.e move the front two to the back, and back two to the front) once a year. That way, after 2-3 yrs, the level of wear and tear will be spread evenly throughout all 4 tyres. In other words, you must still change all 4 tyres after every 2-3 yrs.

Frou: Ohh.. so that’s what they meant by “tyre rotation”. It is also part of the servicing package at Toyota but I thought it means they are simply “rotating” (i.e. turning) the tyre to make sure it works.

The Brother: Omg. That is priceless.
