I have to get rid of my old DVD player because...

... it has turned demonic.

First of all, it makes a loud whirling and thumping sound whenever I play certain DVDs. The sound may or may not go off eventually. Strange.

Secondly, it has its mood when it comes to which DVD it 'chooses' to play. It won't play movies like "Becoming Jane" (Austen)  but when I pop in "Sex & Zen", no problem whatsover.

Thirdly, and most obviously, instead of showing "Hello" (when I turn it on) and "Load" (when a DVD is loading) on the display screen, it shows, "Hell" and "Lord". Well, hello Lucifer.

The last straw came when it won't play the latest Thai movie I bought, "Kingdom of War Part II" (you guys know I adore Thai movies, right? They kick serious ass.) I was so desperate I actually tried reasoning with "it". Yes, I did. I started by saying we have had a very good last 5 years together and if the occasion do not call for it, I will not find a replacement. That said, I also explain that in order for this relationship to work, "it" must do its part of the deal, which is, "it" must work properly and not deprive me hours of Thai entertainment. However, "it" did not relent despite me trying again and again to load (or 'lord') the DVD. When negotiations came to a futile end, I shook my fist and declared I had enough.

In anger and disappointment, I drove to Best Denki @ IMM Mall in Jurong (I told you I was desperate) and bought myself a new DVD player. And I watched Kingdom of War on my new DVD player.

And I'm glad I did because the main lead (Sawasdee Wanchana or "Capt. Bird") who played the great King Naresuan is one heck of a good looking guy.

And because I watched it with The Man and because this is a foreign film in a foreign language, I did not escape the alibaba subtitles from him during the film.
