They speakah no Ingris!

Dailytoe in her latest blog post talks about how we shouldn't criticize Ris Low for using less than perfect English during the Miss Singapore World pagent. Or blame English teachers in Singapore for that matter.

I totally agree!

Why are Singaporeans giving Ris Low crap ~ isn't this is a beauty contest and her only business is to look good? I also don't understand the argument that they expect her to speak good English because she is representing Singapore. She is representing a country whose citizens speaks like her on a daily basis ~ so what gives?

In any case, at least she can speak English. Have you ever wondered what those beauty queens who needs a translator during the pagent are saying in their native language? They are probably talking crap for all we know but we only hear the carefully filtered words by their translator....

Announcer: And now we have Miss XX from *dramatic pause* Genovia.
Miss Genovia: *flaps her angel wings and strut out in a tiny bikini*
Announcer: So, Miss Genovia, tell us, why do you want to be Miss Universe?
Translator: Blablablabla?
Miss Genovia: Oh!! Blablablablablabla...
Translator: "I want to be Miss Universe because...
Miss Genovia: Blablablabla!
Translator: Oh dear...
Announcer: Can the translator please tell us what Miss Genovia just said?
Translator: Erm....for world peace?
Announcer: How noble! Everyone, I give you Miss Genovia!
Miss Genovia: *frantic flapping of angel wings*

I agree with you that when participating in beauty pageants, looking good is the main part of the business. However, the problem with Ris Low is, she doesnt even look good from the very beginning.

That and plus, her horrendous english. Double HORROR!

Oklah, she is passable. I bumped into her at a restaurant last week. She looks alright in person.
