Cuddling, Chaos & Consolation (or lack thereof)

So I have a couple of ad hoc peeves I need to air, but I can’t be bothered to write separate entries for each of them so here goes all, without rhyme, reason or connection to one another.

A girlfriend just told me that a common female friend of ours has been telling her that things between her and some guy has been ‘friendly’ and they have been “cuddling on the bed”.

Now, I never understood the concept of “cuddling on the bed”. What is that meant to achieve? Minus the nampy-pampiness, “cuddling on the bed” is your high school version of sex. We are all adults now. If you wanna have sex, have sex. If he just wants to cuddle, doesn’t it just mean that he either can’t get it up for you or he just doesn’t want to have sex with you and that he is only ‘layan-ing’ your request for intimacy?

Also, why do girls think that cuddling in bed is so much more significant and intimate than sex? Very significant meh? Cuddling is just foreplay to me. If the foreplay doesn’t lead to sex, then it’s a waste of time. It’s like trying to gnaw through a mooncake but never quite getting to the egg yolk in the centre. Or worse, to be later told that they isn’t any egg yolk in that one. What a bleeding waste of calories spent on all that lotus paste! Sorry but if there ain’t gonna be an egg yolk at the end of all that gooey stuffs, I ain’t going to bother with that mooncake.

(Gawd, do I sound like a guy?)

Ok, fine, I appreciate that cuddling without sex is sometimes a girl’s weapon to prolong the wait so that the guy stay interested longer. It is even written in The Rule Book by those archaic women from the 80s. Having said that, I am not a fan of games or the rules or whatever. I’m sure a lot of guys aren’t too and that they would much prefer if you do or say what you actually think or feel.

So recently I picked up this memoir of a stewardess written by a former SQ girl. I must say the content of the book is rather entertaining. It gives the low-down on airline crews and what hanky panky goes on in the cabin when lights are out. What I didn’t enjoy was the fact that the writer is obviously trying hard to impress with her sporadic (and inappropriate) usage of “big” English words. What is worse, she threw in (very often) the use of local colloquial terms with their English translation in brackets. Example: “The hiong-ness (hecticness) of a flight depends on…..”. Ugliness!! I know I use a lot of alibaba slangs too but only because this is a alibaba blog, you folks are all alibaba readers (I mean that in a good way of course) and I don't frigging charge you S$22 to read my bad English!

She also sometimes throws in local slangs from other language ssuch Malay. Example: “We were all kelang-kabuh (confused) when they told us to…”. It is KELAM-KABUT lah. Besides, only a situation can be kelam-kabut (chaos) not persons. If you are going to published the book in markets where people don’t understand the lingo (presumably, that’s why the English translation) at least make sure that you get the terms right. I wonder which alibaba editor vetted this book.

Having said all that, I still enjoy the book for the gossips. Now if I can just grin and bear with the language…

(Who wants my copy when I am done with it?)

So I was driving to work this morning and where I am residing now, I have to go through the entire length of the AYE highway. The time was 8.50am and for some reasons, everyone is going EXTRA slow even though there is no obvious ‘kelam-kabut’ anywhere.

I found out the reason why when I was approaching past the exit after Alexander Road. There is an ERP gentry and the charges are S$1.50 (!!) if you drive through between 8am and 8.55am. From 9am onwards, it’s only $0.50.

The Singapore gah-men obviously knows that some idiots will be dashing like…erm.. idiots to make sure they pass through the gentry only after 9am hence there will be a traffic build up. As a ‘consolation’, if you piah all the way but only managed to get to the gentry betwen 8.55am to 9am, you pay only S$1.00.

I passed by the gentry at 8.59am sharp.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I am NOT consoled! Grrrrrrr!
