And that's why she don't date.

I was hanging out at the “girly” corner at a friend’s birthday do when I heard one of the most appalling date stories ever.

This petite pretty young thing was announcing to us that she has not dated for a year. And the reason is because men in Singapore suck. That was a sweeping statement and of course we demanded to know the specifics. She recounted to us how her last horrendous date with a local air force pilot went.

Mr. Pilot was gallant enough to bring her to a fancy restaurant for dinner. They had a reasonably good time and when the last of dessert plate was swiped clean, he somewhat grudgingly pick up the tab. I use the word “grudgingly” because after he paid, he actually asked her, “Do you want to know how much dinner costs?” of which she did not reply. How does one respond to that anyway? And by the way, he chose the restaurant.

But he didn’t let it go. Apparently for the next couple of days after, he kept on referring back to that dinner date and making suggestive comments such as “So, when is it YOUR turn to buy me dinner?”

The poor girl was baffled and disgusted by his confusingly juvenile behavior, and the straw that broke the camel's back was when he said something along the lines of “No money, no show.” So she asked for his bank account number so that she can return him her share of the dinner. And this was what he replied:

“OK. My bank account number is XXX-XXXX-XX and your share of the dinner is $100. Don’t worry, I'll cover the desserts even though you had more than your “just one bite.”

OH! MY! HAHHAHAHAHHAHA!

And just as we were smoothing out the creases in our dresses from falling over laughing, she went on to tell us about another dude she dated who rides around town in a white Porche but makes her walk to another destination for pick-up because “there don’t have to pass through ERP ”.

It takes all kinds, doesn’t it?
