In search of an "interdependent" mindset

I read the following extract in The Straits Times’ “Mind your Body” section today:

“Independent minded people may be more prone to drinking on an impulse than those who tend more towards conformity.

In a series of studies in the US which looks at individualism on both a national level and a personal one, researchers found that independent types may be more open to impulsive drinking than people who are “interdependent” – that is, more concerned with what family, friends and peers think of their behaviour.

If people with a drinking problem could be encouraged to take a more interdependent mindset – by for example, making them think about the good times they have with their close family members, they might become less inclined to drink impulsively.”

For my next wine pouch (i.e. glamorised version of the beer belly) feeding session, I am going to experiment thinking about “the good times I had with my close family members” and see whether that will help curb my alcohol compulsion.

:S

I suspect I will drink even more….
