"I'd date you if you are a guy"

Yes, that is what I have been told recently. Twice. By two different girls.

Statements like that are very hard to feel for. Am I supposed to take it as a compliment (that I would make a great guy) or do I take it as an insult (that I am a failure at my current gender)?

The first incident happened when this girl who came out to me. After she told me that she is interested in girls, I waited for a follow-up declaration along the lines of, "I am actually interested in you."

Nothing.

I waited until my impatience got the better of me. So I popped the question myself, "SO, ARE YOU SAYING THAT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ME?" She replied, "Hell no, you are not my type at all. But if you are a guy, I will definitely date you."

Okayy.....

The second incident happened without the girl even meeting me. My friend, Pig, was trying to hook me up with one of her friends who is looking for a housemate. In her introduction, Pig described me as, "Frou is an avid rock climber! She doesn't sleep much and always look like a panda bear everytime we meet. She's a hyper bee! She's totally not anal and she's a fun loving creature all rite!"

I received an email from Pig's friend, "After the wonderful introduction, I’d just like to say that I would date you if you were a guy. Be careful coz I get frisky when I’m drunk ;)"

I wonder whether it was my nocturnal lifestyle or the word "anal" that did the trick.

So I figure if I am a butch, I will be pretty popular. Already I'd been told that I have a masculine stature (broad shoulders & big arms) and a manly gait. I have very few girly habits and I look like a drag in dresses. My current hairstyle (Victoria Beckham gone wrong) probably also attributed. I have no qualms about getting thrashed on the rocks and it doesn't help that my current German climb buddy looks like she swings the other way too.

You know what? I'm going to take it as a compliment. If I am a guy, I'd date me too :)
