A Feel-Good Friday Post

Yesterday morning, The Sis had to wake me up for work. I have been waking up near noon time the past week so it was IMPOSSIBLE to get up earlier. Though pregnant, she is strong as an ox and kicked me out of bed.

After my (reluctant) shower, I found breakfast waiting for me. Ham, cheese and tomato croissant. Yums! After breakfast, she made go through my bag to see if I got my laptop (check), phones (check), money (check) and work documents (check). After that, she drove me to work and instructed me to call her if no one at my office wants to eat lunch with me. Later that afternoon, she called to see if I’m eating lunch. I was not; and I got scolded. After work, she picked me up and I found dinner waiting for me at home.

This morning, The Sis had very bad backache so she couldn’t drive me to work. Nonetheless, she “monitored” me from her bed and shouted instructions for me to make my own breakfast and go through my bag (!!). After that, she wrote down, on a piece of post-it pad, detailed instructions (with a map) how to take a tram to work. She also gave me a tram card and coins (in case the card doesn’t work).

When I finally close the house door behind me, it felt like true blue freedom….!

Hahah! Ok, actually, I don’t really mind being fussed over – felt good, actually. It has been a long time (IF EVER AT ALL) somebody mothers me around. My own mother kicked me out of the house at 16!

Anyway, it amazes me just how much I enjoyed taking the tram to work. I thought I’m going to hate it, i.e. take public transportation, but it was actually good. It was a bit chilly but I got my cosy leather jacket on (LOVE IT! Where do I get opportunity to wear it, right?) and Melbourne city is in a grid format so it was super easy to navigate. As I have to walk a bit, I can leisurely admire the view and stop by café and get my coffee. It feels like being in the movies!! I’m insufferable, I know. You have to forgive me because I don’t get to do this very often.

My Melbourne office is near St. Kilda and my kind general manager has given me an office room overlooking a lake and golf course. The view is absolutely breathtaking, especially on a sunny day like this. People are considerate and cheerful. The café downstairs serves really tasty pastry and fresh OJ. Thanks to all the good vibes, I got a lot of work done here. I’m typing this because I have finished my work for the day (this has NEVER happened before). In fact, my boss emailed to ask me to knock off early to go enjoy myself but I have decided to stay a little longer – simply because I love the view from my chair.

And tonight, I’m heading to Josie Bones for some nose to tail dining with an old friend. Pork, beer & gossip ~ what great combination! Will update soon!
