Working on the eve of a public holiday is great. Knowing that it is going to be half working day makes waking up in the morning so much easier. I took a nice leisurely shower with the works (i.e. exfoliate, deep conditioning, etc) and got dressed in the most casual outfit I ever dare to wear to work: Sequined racer backs and (*drum roll*) HAVAIANAS! Haha!
Oh, the sequins are not a problem. Neither is the racer back, which happen to be my staple work uniform. It’s the Havaianas. You see, when I first joined the company, I asked HR what is the office dress code. She thought for several minutes and finally said that she has seen almost every nonsense employees have worn to work before but there is just one thing she hasn’t seen – and that is, slippers.
Say hello to Frou The Rebel. *flip-flopping down the hallway* (The Queen, I’m wearing the white ones you bought for me from Brazil!)
Anyway in my ‘beach outfit’, I got so much done at work this morning. I finished reading and replying to 2 reports on Cambodian and Philippines labor law compliance (*yawn yawn*). I had a ‘heartfelt’ chat with our headhunter to reject the candidate I interviewed yesterday (this took a little effort; had to be tactful not to hurt feelings). I went on to reply to all the ad hoc emails from people in Korea, India, Japan, etc. who don’t celebrate Christmas (*yawn*). Finally, I even sent out a holiday greeting card (which I never do) to one of our outside lawyers who is diligently replying to my emails today to thank him for all the good work he has done this year. I purposely copied his boss so he gets the recognition. Hope he gets a nice year-end bonus for putting up with me. You see, the Frou can sometimes get a little tyrannical at work. (Yeah, you don’t say!)
I also found time to chat online with The Sister to find out what she is doing (she’s bumming around in KL) and The Toe (she’s packing for KL). I then called Toi to check whether he got back from Shanghai is one piece because he is supposed to drive me and the gang down to KL tomorrow for a fun-filled weekend of booze, food, climbing and jungle living. Yes, you read correct: jungle living. We rented a glass house (erm, it’s made of glass) in the middle of the jungle on Boxing Day. It’s supposed to be completely secluded and very relaxing/zen-like so that we can ponder and think about our life (Ya right! Nursing a hangover more like). There’s a BBQ pit and a private pool for us to play with, and supposedly no animals. I don’t know about that though; my friends are monkeys. Anyway, I also have a nice Christmas dinner planned on Saturday at one of my favorite restaurants in KL and drinks afterwards at a new Japanese ‘Harajuku-ish’ bar. And oh ya, if time permits, me and the Toe will be doing a spot of Christmas rock climbing at our favorite indoor gym, Camp 5. I am looking forward to that!
All in all, sounds like a great weekend ahead but let’s see how far we get. Merry Christmas, everyone. Thanks for reading this silly blog this year!
