Dear agrainofsand,
I refer to your comment left on my previous post.
I have delegated your query to my trusty Secretary Pig in Hong Kong and her response is as set forth below:
"If you’re intending to climb natural outdoors, then I’m afraid you’re going to have to bring all your own gear as the places which rent equipment are only meant for use in their rock gyms.
If you mean to climb on artificial walls, your best bet are the YMCA walls. There is a small indoor one at Tsim Sha Tsui and a larger outdoor one at King’s Park. Both require you to pass a simple assessment prior to use. If you are intending to climb there, it would be advisable to contact them first on when you can take the assessment as the qualified assessor may only be available at specific times. More info and contact details on the YMCA walls can be found here: http://www.hongkongclimbing.com/general/walls.html. This website is also a good source of info on natural rock climbing in HK.
The Y! at TST rents out harness, shoes and gri-gri. Only top-roping available. The Y! at King’s Park rents out rope, quickdraws and gri-gri. You need your own harness and shoes. While the King’s Park will is generally meant for lead climbing, the staff will set up top rope for you if you request for it.
The non-YMCA articifial walls in HK require you to have passed the assessment by local climbing associations. These assessments are much harder to arrange which is why I think you can rule them out unless you’re staying in HK for a good length of time."
I trust you find the above helpful. If it is not, I will have my Secretary Pig's head for stew tonight.
I would also bring your attention to the disclaimer at the bottom of this site which applies for all alibaba advice expended by me or my alibaba friends via. this site.
Many thanks for your loyal patronage of this blog. Happy climbing in Hong Kong!

thanks much! :D
i think if it's so troublesome, we might just have to bypass climbing on this trip. which is sad, cos i was looking forward to meeting up with these climbing buddies from chicago and climbing somewhere in the region. but we only have 3 days, and everyone is flying in from different cities...
maybe we'll go on hiking and drinking instead. well, definitely drinking.
thanks again for your help!!!
