Liver vs. Lover

Today, Phillip ignored me during our afternoon online chat because his lover was also online.

Frou: What am I to you now? Chopped liver?
Phillip: What is chopped liver?

I realised although I have been using this slang for years (since reading it from Archies comic) I never quite knew what the phrase actually meant. So I googled.

According to urban slang dictionary, "chopped liver" is used to describe someone perceived as being of little value or worth, as evidenced by being ignored when others are getting attention.

And how it came about is; chopped liver is a traditional jewish dish and has an unusual taste and dull appearance. Since it is an acquired taste, it is often not the favourite on any dining table. Also it is just a side dish, not main course. "What am I, chopped liver? signify frustration at being ignored on a social level and feeling of being overlooked.

Phillip: Don't give up, Chopped Liver Frou! Someday you will find someone who likes chopped liver....and they will eat you.
Frou: Gee. Thanks.

I like liver. But then again, I eat almost anything =)
Hey imagine if it were the Frou's liver on the menu, it would read something like "Our house version of foie gras: Liver of a fattened black pig steeped in champagne, wine and beer for extended periods before grilling to perfection"
Sounds like atas French food me say - bring it on!
