I was working on something today when I came across this furry yellow creature in our archives.
Designed by Jim Henson Creatures Workshop, Flat Eric is a low-tech, unpretentious, kooky, headbanging yellow muppet made famous by his star appearance in Levi Strauss & Co.'s TV commercials for Levi's® sub-brand "Sta-Prest® " in 1999 for the European market.
In the series of Levi's® brand commercials conceived by BBH, Flat Eric travelled all over California with his stoned-face human buddy (Angel) as wanted criminals.
His original name is Stephane (so French!) but he was renamed 'Flat Eric' after an idea for a commercial where he was ran over by a car and flattened. That commercial didn't materialize but he kept the name!
French music producer, Mr Oizo, produced the electro track music ("Flat Beat") for the series of commercials and Flat Eric later appeared in his "Flat Beat" music video as a record label producer.
He is a cute one, this Flat Eric. Really liven up my work day today. Bless his furry yellow hide!
